The Binary Towers

ages 3 - 9

With the Binary Towers, children explore binary numbers through sight, sound, and touch. Children fill the towers, arranged according to place value, in order to discover the binary number for the corresponding quantity of balls. When a tower is filled to the top, the lid is closed and reads “1.” When a tower is not filled, it remains empty, and the lid reads “0.” With these simple instructions, children can playfully learn that there is only one way to represent each number in binary.
